New Hope City: 5150

Year1, Month 3, Week 1

Hell Hath No Furry...

I was in Midland Terrace on some business when I cut through an alley (never a good idea, it seems) and ran into Luzee.

We’d been dating for a few months and then she started noticing some discrepancies in her accounts. Accountants, they notice these things. I still don’t know how she thought I was involved. Sure, sometimes I take things that aren’t mine, but I’m not exactly smart enough for embezzlement. On the other hand, I’m too smart to pull that kind of crap on a Zhuh-Zhuh chick. That’s just asking for melodrama followed by a dislocated shoulder.

Well, here she was again, angry and accompanied by some friends of hers, spoiling for a fight. It didn’t look like this was going to be my week…

Hey, Luzee… er, nice to see you again! Did you lose weigh… er, um, nice outfit!” I stammered.

Don’t try your smooth talk on me, you jerk,” she growled. A couple of her companions traded looks that questioned her idea of what constituted “smooth talk”.

You’ve been stealing from me again.

Baby,” I pleaded, “You’ve got it all wrong. I mean, I haven’t even seen you in months. How am I stealing from you? I’m not a netrunner or nothing. And look at me, do I look like I’ve got money? My life’s been crap since you kicked me out.

I tried to look small, which wasn’t hard with her. I sighed and said, “I suppose you brought these guys to rough me up. Well, that seems to be my luck now. Let’s get it over with.

She seemed frustrated, the fur on her cheeks bristling a bit.

“Good Gaea, you’re pathetic. Nevermind, guys. Let’s go.” Her friends seemed more bored than disappointed. They shrugged and followed her out of the alley. “Don’t let me catch you around here again!” she shouted without looking back.
